Please help a chemist. In the lab we often wash a gas with a scrub solution (washing vingar vapors from air by bubbling through baking soda). What would the proper translation be for "scrub"?

Is it the same thing as blowing gas mixture through activated carbon to remove water vapors ? If so then it would be the same as filter right.
Does CO2 scrubber unit the same thing ?
I think in malay they just use the term 'penapis' (filter). It's a tad generic but is generally understood. Hope it helps
