A bit too literal, don't you think? it's a title. as in "saya --anak melayu". I was thinking of "I, the Malay Youth" but don't think that sounds right.

Yes, the thought crossed my mind also, but sometimes certain things can't just be expressed in other words.
but could you settle with "I - a/the Malay son" just the same but a little bit more dramatic isn't it ?
